Meet your mentor

Hi, i’m kate

Kate hatherell full width image

A few years ago I was in your shoes right now. Wondering about whether to take the leap into interior design and if it would work out for me.

I eventually chose an interior design course, but unfortunately for me, it wasn’t quite the experience I’d hoped for…

Now I’m a pretty clever woman (even if I do say so myself) but design was an entirely new discipline to me, and once I started studying I soon found myself needing a bit of support.

I needed access to someone who could just answer my questions and explain things in more detail than just a video alone could. Unfortunately that support just wasn’t as available as I needed and I ended up struggling alone.

Home page the interior designer's hub accredited course

During my studies I was often unable to get hold of my tutor, which meant that I ended up struggling alone, or asking questions in an unmanned facebook group, which was a bit like the blind leading the blind if I’m honest! Waiting weeks for my marks was demotivating as I never knew whether I was on the right track.

At times it felt like I was in a diploma factory, just another number on their production line.

And when I eventually *did* qualify I came out feeling like I’d been dropped off the edge of a cliff. There was no support to help me forge a career using my new qualification. I had a diploma in my hand that *said* I was an interior designer, but I certainly didn’t feel like one!

–Kate Hatherell | Founder of the Interior Designer’s Hub

But guess what? There’s a

better way to learn

As a professional educator in my (then) day job, I knew this was NO WAY to deliver a high quality learning experience.

I knew that there was a better way to develop people, to provide a fully rounded educational experience so that students graduate- not just with a qualification in their hand- but with real, practical knowledge and the confidence to head out into the workforce.

A few years later, once I’d set up my own interior design practice, I decided to deliver my own government accredited diploma, making use of my educational expertise and pedagogical knowledge to bring a fully supported online diploma course to the UK.

This will include developing understanding of key issues, such as responsible design, healthy living, and legislation, as well as raising awareness of technology and SMART materials in an interior design context.

You will critically compare the advantages and disadvantages of materials and finishes in response to specific client requirements, whilst also demonstrating appropriate visual communication skills that effectively relay design intentions to meet a client brief.

Portfolio Presentation

Pull together all of the work throughout your diploma into a final presentation of your portfolio, communicating your design intentions through a variety of media.

The resulting design scheme will enable you to present a set of sketches, presentation material, technical drawings and other associated project work that will form a portfolio piece to be used as an example of knowledge and skills for progression to higher study or to present to potential clients.

Catherine

CATHERINE CONNACHER

blaven interiors

Cat worked as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS before studying with us. She’d always been creative (in fact she also has a degree in fine art!) but she didn’t think she could make a living from working for herself in a creative field.

As it happens, she really didn’t need to worry because well… she was wrong! In fact, Cat has been inundated with work since before she even completed her diploma!

“I got my first job when I was about a quarter of the way through the diploma! I mostly work on residential projects: single rooms and whole house renovations, offering either design only, or full design and project management. I make more money now than I did in my previous career. Completing this qualification has given me financial stability, freedom and flexibility. It’s the best thing I ever did.”

Cat now runs an interior design studio called Blaven interiors, offering virtual and in-home services. She feels fulfilled and she’s delighted she made the leap.

Michaela

Michaella Prince

Popfox Interiors

Before enrolling in our diploma program, Michaella spent 15 years as an English teacher in Perth, Scotland. Although she found teaching rewarding, she had been feeling really restricted by the lack of control over her time, by not being her own boss, and she was fed up with school politics too.

Today, Michaella runs a thriving interior design business called Popfox Interiors. She has a 6-month waiting list for new clients, her work has been featured in multiple different home magazines, and she is loving life!

She works mostly on residential projects, but she has recently completed the design of her first commercial project; a 54 bedroom boutique hotel!

“Before I took the course, I was worried that I wouldn’t find clients but I have been very lucky. In fact, my diary filled up while I was completing the diploma, and I’ve been fully booked since then!”

Nancy

Nancy Cusenza

Nancy Cusenza Interiors

Before joining us, Nancy came from a retail background, having worked for Marks & Spencer for many years. She had always loved interiors but had no formal training and worried that no one would hire her without a design degree.

In spite of her concerns, after completing the diploma, Nancy successfully gained a role with a local interior design practice, where she worked whilst setting up her own studio. Her first projects after graduating included renovating a Victorian villa and designing a modern open plan kitchen dining space.

Through the course, Nancy also discovered a passion for SketchUp: another skill that she has monetised by creating stunning, photo-real 3D visuals for other interior designers too.

Nancy has worked on residential as well as commercial projects, including designing a huge commercial café, and her local Cotswold & Co store.

faq

Yes it is!

This isn’t just an ‘interior design course’; it’s a UK government accredited Level 3 Diploma. Unlike some other interior design courses, our diploma is externally verified through AIM Qualifications & Assessment Group, and registered with the UK government’s body for qualifications, Ofqual.

If you see another provider claiming to offer an accredited interior design course please make sure they are registered with Ofqual. Anyone can say they are ‘accredited’- please be careful!

Our credentials are here:

Course Name: Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design

Qualification Number: 610/1068/6

Awarding Body: AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group

Ofqual Recognition Number: RN5322

Centre Number: 61101

UK Provider Reference Number: 10067454

If you’d like to check out the course on the Ofqual website, you can find that >here<.

It’s entirely up to you!

This diploma is completely flexible so you can work at your own pace.

There are 10 modules in the diploma. Each module takes on average 20-25 hours of study time.

Some people work through the modules very quickly, whereas other people take their time and complete it at a steadier pace.

The great thing is, you can stop and start, to fit in around whatever else you have going on in your life.

We normally suggest that alongside a full-time job and other commitments it is quite achievable to complete one module per month.  We give you a full 2 years to complete the Diploma so you have plenty of time to manage this to suit your circumstances.

No!

All of our modules are assessed through coursework, which includes a combination of practical work, such as making mood boards (we teach you how), questions and answers, and written assignments.

Wherever possible, we allow you to choose your own assessment method.

So if you hate writing but feel more comfortable talking, you can record your answers instead of writing them down.

The support that we provide our students is unrivalled!

Not only will you have a dedicated tutor that will be with you for the duration of your studies, you also have access to the whole tutor team on our weekly group zoom call. We call them Hub Huddles because they are a friendly and supportive place to be!

We also have a dedicated facebook group that is manned every day of the week, Monday to Friday, by our tutor team, so that you get qualified answers to all your questions, as soon as you need them.

And in addition to all of this support, if you still find you are struggling, we also have a learning mentor who can work with you one to one, to get you back on track. Chantal is a qualified teacher and interior designer, with specialist training in Special Educational Needs. So if you get stuck, she will be by your side, every step of the way.

After you click the enrol button, you will be taken to a payment page, where you will be able to enter your name, your email address and your payment details.

You will then be sent a questionnaire to gather your registration details, and you will be asked to send us a form of identification. All of the details will be in your welcome email.

As soon as we have verified your ID and registered you, you will be able to start studying!

You can get a diploma elsewhere, yes!

But… you can’t get “this” diploma with “this” level of support anywhere else.

As we know, quality doesn’t come cheap… and cheap doesn’t give you quality.

If you want an all-round educational experience, where you get coaching and mentorship to help you with your studies, if you want to join a community of new students and designers and make friendships that will last you throughout your career, then choose us.

Remember: we’re not a diploma factory. We don’t just teach you. We nurture you. We develop you. We transform you.

No!

Your certificate will state that you have a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design.

The future of adult education is online. As we lead ever busier lives, and seek to better ourselves, online learning is already seen as a very credible option for those who require a flexible study solution.

Being realistic, you will need a fairly modern laptop or desktop computer to complete the course, and internet access.

We do not recommend the use of an iPad or a Chromebook because the CAD (technical drawing) software that comes with your diploma (SketchUp) is not fully compatible.

Aside from a modern laptop or desktop computer, you do not need any other equipment.

All of your tuition is covered in the cost of the course.

You do not need to purchase additional reading material to complete your assignments.

However a reading list is provided inside the course, to help you to broaden your knowledge. You can obtain these books via your library, or you may choose to purchase them.

You will be required to source fabric samples for your materials boards. These can often be obtained free of charge from many retailers, although some may charge a few pounds or charge postage.

Yes! But it’s really generous.

You have two whole years to complete the diploma level.

It is perfectly possible to complete one module per month, alongside working, and managing other responsibilities, and we give you double that amount of time to complete your studies!

You can also extend at the end of your Diploma if you need more time subject to a small additional payment.

After you graduate, you will hold a Level 3 Qualification, which gives you plenty of opportunities for your future.

Because this is a UK accredited diploma, the course gives you 24 UCAS points that you can use for an application towards a degree programme at a UK university.

However, most of our students go on to set up their own business, after studying with us.

We have a follow on course called ‘The Launch Lab Experience’ where you work with a mentor to set up your business together over 12 weeks. And once you’ve got a business up and running, you can come and join our professional membership, Hub Insiders, where we support you with your business for the rest of your career.

When you study with us, there is a lifetime of support available to you after graduation!

Got another question?
