Before joining The Interior Designers Hub, Nancy Cusenza spent many years working for Marks & Spencer. She enjoyed her career in retail, but she had always been drawn to interiors. Rearranging rooms, choosing colours and styling spaces were second nature to her, yet she never imagined that passion could become her profession.
“I loved interiors, but I had no formal training,” she recalls. “I worried that no one would take me seriously without a design degree.”
That self-doubt didn’t last long. After discovering The Interior Designers Hub, Nancy decided to follow her instincts and enrol on our Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design. “I wanted to see if I really could make a career out of what I loved,” she says. “The course looked structured, approachable and comprehensive, and I thought, why not give it a go?”
Nancy quickly discovered that her natural creativity, combined with the skills she was learning through the course, gave her the confidence to start putting herself out there. Not long after completing the diploma, she secured a position with a local interior design practice, gaining valuable hands-on experience while she began setting up her own studio.
Her first independent projects were ambitious: the renovation of a beautiful Victorian villa and the design of a modern, open-plan kitchen and dining space. Both gave her the opportunity to apply her new skills in real-world settings, refining her design eye and learning how to balance function with style.
I used to doubt whether I could make it in this industry. Now I’m designing homes, cafés and retail spaces.

Through the course, Nancy also unearthed a new creative strength: 3D visualisation. “A few months ago, I couldn’t even draw a box in SketchUp,” she laughs. “But now, with the Hub’s support and tutorials, I’m producing 3D visuals for other designers and getting paid for them.”
Her stunning, photo-realistic visuals have since become a hallmark of her work. Fellow designers now commission her to bring their own projects to life through her detailed SketchUp renders, and her growing reputation for quality and precision has opened up new streams of income alongside her design practice.
Nancy’s portfolio has continued to expand, spanning both residential and commercial projects. Highlights include a large commercial café and, most impressively, the redesign of her local Cotswold Co store. “That one was a real pinch-me moment,” she says. “To go from working in retail to designing a retail space for such a well-known brand felt like a full-circle achievement.”
From retail floor plans to luxury interiors, Nancy’s journey shows what is possible with the right mix of creativity, courage and professional training. Her decision to study with The Interior Designers Hub and complete the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design gave her the confidence and technical foundation she needed to turn her love of interiors into a thriving career.
As Nancy puts it, “I still can’t quite believe how far I’ve come. I used to doubt whether I could make it in this industry, and now I’m designing homes, commercial spaces and creating visuals for other designers. It’s been completely life-changing.”
