Before joining The Interior Designers Hub, Emily Hall worked as a primary school teacher. She loved helping children learn and grow, but over time she began to realise that something was missing. “I wasn’t happy in my job and knew I needed a change,” she explains. “My partner started his own business as a painter and decorator, which inspired me to have my own business too. I’ve always loved interiors and enjoyed developing learning spaces when I was a teacher. That’s what gave me the inspiration to sign up for the diploma.”

Like many who make a big career shift, Emily was initially full of self-doubt. “I felt I wasn’t good enough; my creative skills, people wanting my opinion… I still have those moments, especially when I’m looking for inspiration on Instagram. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others. But I remind myself that I’m on my own journey. I never thought I would officially qualify, but now look where I am!”

Her turning point came after discovering The Interior Designers Hub. “I had already listened to your podcast, which I loved,” she says. “It was so inspirational hearing other people who had made the big move and were leading successful interior design businesses. At the time, I was going through a really tough period at work, and those podcasts gave me hope for the future.”

After completing the five-day challenge, Emily knew she had found the right place to study. “I was so impressed by the level of support and guidance,” she says. “It made me see what I could get if I signed up for the diploma.”

Once she began the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design, Emily found the experience transformative. “The level of support has been amazing,” she says. “There was lots of guidance, but also plenty of opportunities to independently develop my designer skills. My tutor, Ann, was so helpful — always providing clear feedback, celebrating my wins and supporting me when I didn’t quite meet the objective. I really appreciate everything she did.”

The experience left Emily feeling confident, capable and ready to move forward. “I never believed I could become an interior designer, but after this experience I now feel confident, prepared and ready to take the next step. Learning with you has been such a rewarding journey and I’ve genuinely loved every moment.”

Like many of your graduates, Emily is taking her transition one step at a time. “I’m excited, nervous and still have imposter syndrome,” she admits. “But each day I try to make a small step to move my business forward. I’m currently teaching four days a week, but with fewer responsibilities than before. My aim is to reduce my teaching days and build up my interior design freelance income.”

Looking back, she’s proud of what she’s achieved, both for herself and for her family. “I had been considering the diploma for over a year before I committed, but I have had no regrets. I feel proud of myself for taking the time to invest in my future career. As a mum with two young children, it’s so easy not to put yourself first, but I wanted my children to see me doing something I’m passionate about. This new career will enhance not only my life, but theirs too.”

When asked if she would recommend The Interior Designers Hub to others considering a career change, Emily doesn’t hesitate. “Absolutely! I would tell them to try it because you’ll regret it if you don’t. This diploma has been an incredibly supportive and positive experience. Thank you for everything — I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done.”

Emily’s story is a wonderful example of how passion, determination and the right training can open new doors.
