Erica Burton

Studio Dee Interior Design

Erica Burton had already spent years working in the luxury interior design industry, where she loved the creative side of her role. But as time went on, she began to crave more independence and flexibility. “I’d always loved the creative aspect of my job,” she explains, “but I wanted to do something for myself.”

When Erica discovered The Interior Designers Hub, it marked a turning point. “I first came across the Hub about three years ago when I was looking for a career change,” she says. “I joined the five-day challenge and thought, why not? From there, I signed up for the diploma, and honestly, it was the best thing I did.”

Balancing study alongside work and family life was a key consideration for Erica. “I was working full time and have two young children, so I really needed something that was flexible and worked for me,” she explains. “The Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design was perfect because I could take it entirely at my own pace.”

Erica loved every aspect of her learning experience. “I absolutely loved the content: from learning about the history of interior design and exploring different styles through the ages, to deep diving into SketchUp and learning to create 3D visuals and floor plans. I just loved the systems.”

The online learning format suited her perfectly. “I found it really simple and easy to follow,” she says. “The tutor support was always there when I needed it, but I wasn’t forced to turn up at certain times or on certain days, so I could dip in and out when it suited me.”

Erica completed her diploma over 18 months, taking her time to balance studies with her busy schedule. Once qualified, she joined the business community at The Interior Designers Hub, to continue building her business. “That next step has been completely invaluable in setting up my own studio,” she says. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the Hub’s support, especially for all the back-end business things you need to consider when setting up on your own. It really helped me to take that leap from a full-time role to running my own business.”

Now, Erica runs her own interior design studio, combining her creative flair and professional experience with the business knowledge she gained through the Hub. “I’d highly recommend The Interior Designers Hub and their diploma to anyone who wants to explore their creativity and build a career within interior design,” she says.

Erica’s story is a brilliant example of how experience, determination and the right training can lead to newfound freedom. Our Level 3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design gave her the structure, flexibility and confidence to make her own mark in the industry, and she hasn’t looked back since.
